CHARACTER INFO

► Name: Yuichiro Hyakuya

► Journal: [personal profile] destroy_all_vamps

► Canon: Seraph of the End

► Canon Point:

► Age: 16+

► Personality: In some ways, he's changed a lot from how he was as a child... In other ways, he hasn't. One of Yuichiro's biggest fears is losing someone he cares about. He has this deep-set need to protect them, so failing in that is not acceptable (according to his way of thinking, it's simply not going to happen). Why he's like this has everything to do with how he grew up. He went from being nearly killed by his own parents, to watching his new family get slaughtered before his very eyes by Ferid.

While he already felt a strong desire to kill the vampire who took everything away from him, Guren's words (words of seeking revenge and living on, even if it's only for revenge) managed to push that part of his personality into being even more prominent. He grew to only care about destroying all vampires, for the sake of avenging his fallen family.

See... after escaping from the vampire city (and then being rescued by Guren and company), he fell into a deep depression. He became a recluse -- he pushed everyone away to the point that, even after four years, he didn't have so much as someone to call an ally; the way Yuichiro saw it, he didn't need one. He could manage just fine, taking care of everything on his own.

So, quite frankly, he would have continued to avoid making friends, if not for Guren sending Shinoa there to push him into doing it. There are several possible reasons for his having been so reluctant, initially.... The one that seems most likely, is that he is terrified of letting himself get close to people, only to possibly lose them in the end. At one point, he does outright say that he's tired of losing people (granted, this is after he's made friends; of course, this shows that, even later on, he's still with that mindset).

Even after lowering his emotional barriers and letting himself make friends, the guy has a ton of flaws. Somewhat early on, he's reckless to the point of putting his life (and sometimes other people's lives) at risk. An example of this happens during the first mission with Mitsuba, Shinoa, Yoichi, and Kimizuki. He sees that a little girl is in danger; and, without considering the consequences, he takes off to go and save her, which ends with his entire squad nearly dying.

Another flaw is his tendency to let his childish nature surface. Usually it's in the form of him being incredibly arrogant or self-centered (said arrogance tends to show in regards towards his fighting skills). There are many moments where people are able to pick a fight with him, simply by implying that they're stronger than him, or just by saying they'll defeat him/kick his butt. An actual example of his arrogance, however, happens during the time when he simply takes off in the car without warning. He nearly runs Kimizuki over after crashing the vehicle into something. Directly after this, he decides that he's already "mastered driving." He outright says that he'll take them to where they need to go...

So, it's easy to say that Yuichiro is certainly not perfect, but no human being (or even...a 90% human being) is. He has all of those flaws, yet he's genuine. When he believes in someone, there's very little that they could ever do to lose his loyalty. Even if they betrayed him...or hurt him... he never turns his back on a friend. Later on, even finding out that Guren could be a traitor, he outright says that he doesn't believe that it would be right to betray him in return. He decides to stick by the man's side, determined to remain loyal to the one who saved his life and gave him the motivation to move forward.

All of his friends -- his family -- are important to him. There's not a single person on the Shinoa squad he'd betray, which would apply to anyone he came to view as a friend. So, in short, he can possibly be the most annoying guy at times... but he's an annoying guy with an exceptionally huge heart and desire to protect everyone he can.

At the point I'm taking him from, there is still one person who is especially important to him: the first person he allowed himself to get close to after the incident that resulted in the loss of both his parents.

It was during a time when Yuichiro had nobody to believe in, that Mika managed to weave his way into his heart. In spite of all of Yuichiro's efforts, he just couldn't seem to get the kid to back off. Even telling Mika how he wound up in the orphanage, simply resulted in the other boy returning the favor. After hearing how Mika wound up in the orphanage, he seemed to understand that he honestly wasn't alone...

All the children there had been through a terrible loss, whether it be of parents... or other family members.

When he was fighting against Ashuramaru for the first time – a battle that took place within his own heart – it was shown just how he felt about Mika; he had clearly grown to see him as family. Yuichiro admired his kind heart. He held a great deal of respect for him, seeing him as someone who was "always smart." When the demon attempted to use Mika’s form to persuade Yuichiro to allow him into his heart, he tried to convince Yuichiro to entirely give into his desires for revenge. Yuichiro yelled at him, screaming that Mika wasn't the kind of person who'd seek revenge.

Like anyone who’s survived a traumatic series of events, Yuichiro managed to gain certain triggers in his years; hearing someone compared to "livestock" became one of them. There are several points in the series where people use that term (humans and vampires alike). He reacted strongly each time, typically resorting to violence.

An example of this happens fairly early on into the series:

Yoichi is being bullied by a group of guys. See, Yuichiro was going to simply leave the situation alone -- he was going to go home until he heard that single word -- "livestock." The second that word was spoken, his interest in getting involved skyrocketed. He quickly jumped in; the only reason he didn't beat the guys up, was because Shinoa told him that hurting civilians would extend his suspension.

► Species: Incubus

► Abilities/Powers:

Sword: Able to take large and powerful creatures down with just the use of a regular sword, Yuichiro is shown to have rather impressive sword-fighting abilities. This is undoubtedly due to the training he underwent; Guren Ichinose ensured that he grew up strong. Of course, he did only gain four years of training...so there's always room for improvement. His sword skills are far from perfect.

Basic Fighting: Hand-to-hand combat is another thing, seeing as he is able to do things such as flying kicks to someone's head. His reflexes aren't too bad; he certainly seems fairly nimble and agile within his fighting scenes. On top of all that, he has a fairly strong ability to bounce back quickly whenever injured.

Being a "Seraph" hybrid, he's ten percent inhuman. Basically, he was experimented on by the Hyakuya Sect (which he doesn't recall, due to the adults erasing his memories after each experiment). This ensures that he is able to do the wonderful thing of losing his mind and undergoing a painful transformation.

Seraph Mode: His left eye turns dark and bleeds while a massive wing-like structure sprouts from his upper left shoulder (while the anime adds a red eye, this is the gist of what it looks like; his wings are huge...). This form holds immense strength, speed, and agility. As a mindless killing machine, all guilt is out the window; this ensures he moves without even an ounce of hesitation. This form is viewed as terrifying even by Asuramaru. He's essentially a weapon that's gone out of control.

This, of course, can only happen if he swallows a special tablet produced by Guren.

Ashuramaru: Yuichiro was able to form a contract with a demon (a being who used to be a vampire). Said demon became his cursed gear. Ashuramaru is a "possession-type," which ensures he's particularly nasty to deal with...
